WELCOME TO UPBEAT ARTS

Upbeat Arts is a creative community where people find connection, confidence and belonging. Through our inclusive choirs, creative writing groups and arts based programs, we bring adults living with mental illness or social isolation together in a safe, uplifting environment.

Every week, our rehearsal rooms fill with voices, laughter and stories. People arrive as strangers and gradually become part of a community that celebrates strengths, honours lived experience and walks alongside each person on their recovery journey. The creative arts are our tool, but human connection is at the heart of all we do.

Our members tell us they feel seen and supported. Our staff and volunteers say this is a place where their work makes a real difference. Together we create moments of joy, growth and hope that ripple far beyond the rehearsal room.

If you are looking for a welcoming community, a creative outlet, or a place to feel part of something meaningful, you are in the right place. Upbeat Arts is here to help people flourish.

WHO WE SUPPORT

We support adults (18+) living with a mental illness diagnosis by providing creative programs that foster connection, self-expression, and personal growth. While not defined as a specific ‘therapy,’ we deliver developmental and therapeutic benefits to enhance the life skills, confidence, communication skills, and overall well-being of our members. Many members describe Upbeat Arts as the reason they get out of bed, and as a vital part of their recovery journey.

Our programs are led by highly accomplished professional artists, supported by our passionate facilitators and a team of volunteer ‘mental health buddies’. Our leaders build upon the capabilities of our members, encouraging learners to take their own personal journey of growth and development. This ensures that our members receive an enriching experience alongside meaningful social connections.

Whether you choose to join one of our choirs or a creative writing program, there’s the opportunity to learn new things and make positive changes in your life.

Recruiting Board Members (voluntary)

As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, we are seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join our Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to strengthen governance, strategy, and impact in a values-driven arts organisation.

Board Members play a vital role in setting the strategic direction of Upbeat Arts, ensuring sound governance, and supporting the General Manager to deliver on the organisation’s mission. This is a voluntary role suitable for individuals with a commitment to social impact through the arts.

We’d love to hear from you!
