WHO WE ARE

We support adults (18+) living with a mental illness diagnosis by providing creative programs that foster connection, self-expression, and personal growth. While not defined as a specific ‘therapy,’ we deliver developmental and therapeutic benefits to enhance the life skills, confidence, communication skills, and overall well-being of our members. Many members describe Upbeat Arts as the reason they get out of bed, and as a vital part of their recovery journey.

Our programs are led by highly accomplished professional artists, supported by our passionate facilitators and a team of volunteer ‘mental health buddies’. Our leaders build upon the capabilities of our members, encouraging learners to take their own personal journey of growth and development. This ensures that our members receive an enriching experience alongside meaningful social connections.

Whether you choose to join one of our choirs or a creative writing program, there’s the opportunity to learn new things and make positive changes in your life.

OUR JOURNEY

It’s been over 10 years since Upbeat Arts arrived in Queensland and what an extraordinary decade it’s been. We established our first choir in South Brisbane and other arts programs including music theatre, creative writing and songwriting. Upbeat Arts now boasts three fantastic choirs – in Brisbane, North Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast – with a fourth launching on the Gold Coast this October.

More importantly, we have helped over 1500 people, many with serious mental health and substance dependency challenges, to connect with others, develop resilience and life skills, and find joy again in life.

Social prescribing has become more well known as a highly successful adjunct to traditional mental health treatments as a result of our programs and our aim is continue to see its use grow throughout the community.

GOLD COAST - RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS NOW

We’re building our brand-new volunteer team for the Gold Coast choir launch — and we’d love to hear from you if you’re interested.

We need 4 more Choir Buddies to sing alongside our members every week and at performances.

AND

We need 4 more Kitchen Team members to help serve tea/coffee and prepare a simple lunch. Kitchen Team members can choose to help fortnightly or monthly.

We’d love to hear from you!

GOLD COAST - RECRUITING MEMBERS NOW

This October, we are excited to launch our new choir in Southport on the Gold Coast.

Our choir programs are crafted to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals facing mental health challenges, such as social isolation, anxiety, depression, or burnout.

The choir kicks off with a formal launch and celebration event on 13 October, followed by weekly rehearsals starting 20 October. If you’re interested in attending our launch event please register via TryBooking here – we’d love you to join us!

No prior singing experience is necessary. Many of our participants have never sung in a choir before and now find it to be a truly transformative experience.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

Prior registration for our programs is important, as some programs are very close to reaching their capacity.

We love welcoming new members to our weekly group programs, and ‘right now’ is always a good time to start.
